Fort Lauderdale!

In August my five pals from high school and I went down to Fort Lauderdale to check on a rental property I'm part owner of. Strictly business. NO GOOFING AROUND WHATSOEVER!

We went straight to the supermarket, Publix in Coral Ridge Mall, from the airport. Here Craig's sizing up the deli counter.

Here's check-out. As you can see, mostly macrobiotic stuff. Health, health, health!

The fridge. Mostly sports drinks, low fat milk, bottled waters and juice.

Dave making sure the pool had water in it.

The first evening we decided to hit this little out of the way place I know called the Mai Kai. At happy hour appetizers are half off and drinks are two for one. They list their cocktails in four categories - mild, medium, strong and very strong. We all chose Scorpions. Scorpions are in the fourth category. Below, a bad camera phone photo of some salmon sushi. Really good and only $6.

Yellowtail roll. I only managed to get one piece but it was excellent. Great deal - $4.

Next, the obligatory tuna. Very nice maguro. $6.

The walk home.

Despite the fact that it was half price our bill was $170! My friend John stepped up and got the whole thing. John is quality. Oh, and a radiation oncologist......

The next night was slightly more civilized. We went up to the beach and dined al fresco. Below, Dave dispatches with the silverware and heads straight for the gnocchi.

My pals are very frugal so breakfast for the departure morning was a little bit of everything. Joe had a bagel with cream cheese and a hot dog, with a side of salsa and some beef jerky. Luther had a hot dog, some salmon cream cheese and Doritos. Craig had sour cream on a bagel with baloney and swiss cheese and a side of leftover pasta. Dave had coffee and a banana. In hindsight, very smart. The flight home was tea-dee-us.
